Sacraments

We nourish, embrace, sustain and celebrate the gift of faith through the Sacraments.

BAPTISM
Deacon Lee Heckman offers Baptism Preparation Classes at Holy Spirit. Please check the bulletin for dates and times or call Deacon Heckman at 256.714.7027 to sign up for a class. Godparents are also welcome to attend this class. If the godparents are from a parish other than Holy Spirit, they will need to provide a Baptism Sponsor Letter from their pastor. Please keep in mind that your child should have a Christian name for Baptism.

If you are a parishioner of Holy Spirit Parish and you will be a Baptism Sponsor for a child from another parish, please fill out this form and bring it to the Parish Office to be signed and sealed.

HOLY MATRIMONY
Congratulations on your engagement! Please contact our priests at least six months prior to your chosen wedding day. The priest will guide you through marriage preparation.

Holy Spirit’s wedding coordinator, Cheryl Bender, is happy to help you with the big day. After you meet with father, schedule a time to meet with Cheryl to begin planning. Email: cbender@holyspirithsv.com or call (256)881-4781 ext 218.

In this booklet, you will find the current guidelines for celebrating your wedding at Holy Spirit Parish. These guidelines are the fruit of much experience, as well as of theological and pastoral reflection on the nature of marriage and the Church’s beautiful ceremonies. They are in place to ensure that your desire for a beautiful wedding is fulfilled. Please know that we are here to help you with your planning and to answer any questions you might have. We look forward to assisting you in planning a joyful and reverent wedding liturgy.

HOLY ORDERS
God calls each of us to a particular vocation in life. A call to ordained priesthood, or religious life is a calling to serve God and his people. Please join us in praying for more vocations. Is God calling you? https://www.birminghamvocations.com/

ANOINTING OF THE SICK
There is a comforting grace that comes with this sacrament. If you or your loved one would like to receive the anointing of the sick, please call the Church office. If there is a Sacramental Emergency after office hours, please call the priest’s emergency phone number:  256-883-4359.
Each year Holy Spirit offers two Anointing Masses: one during Advent and the other during Lent.
