The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered to children during their second grade year. Preparation for this sacrament takes place in our second grade classrooms and is taught by our second grade teachers.
If the child attends Holy Spirit School, he or she will be prepared for this sacrament by their second grade teachers as part of the Religion Class each day at school.
If the child attends a public school or a non-Catholic private school, he or she will be prepared for this sacrament during our Religious Education Classes that take place on Sundays from 10:15-11:30 am.
First Reconciliation Requirements:
It is required that each child is prepared for this sacrament in a classroom setting. Children making First Reconciliation are required to know the Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade prayers prior to making their First Reconciliation. Children must be baptized before making First Reconciliation. A Copy of the child’s Baptismal Certificate should be turned into the Church Office at the beginning of the school year or at the Parent Meeting that takes place in October (see First Reconciliation Calendar below). If the child is not baptized, contact us several months prior to making First Reconciliation. If the child was baptized in a different faith, the child needs to become Catholic by being brought into the Catholic Church. This is done by making a simple “Profession of Faith”. Simply let us know and we will help you to take care of this.
There is a required Parent Meeting for First Reconciliation. For the 2012-2013 School Year, the meeting will take place on Thursday, October 18th at 6:30 PM in the school auditorium.
